18th Century. Young student Victor Frankenstein developes a secret technique to impart life to non-living matter. In an unorthodox scientific experiment he gives life to the Creature. Having replaced God in His creating competence, Victor soon finds out that situation gets out of his control and draws numerous disasters to him and other people.
This Gothic novel's first edition was published in London in 1818. Frankenstein is infused with elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement, and is also considered to be one of the earliest examples of science fiction. It has had a considerable influence in literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories, films, and plays.
