He was alienated because of his Moorish origin, but become a general in the Venetian army, found love with beautiful Desdemona and married her secretly. But he is not aware that his trusted ensign Iago, jealous that Othello promoted the younger Michael Cassio over him, hates Othello and plots against him, supported by his friend Roderigo, who loves Desdemona.
