We’ve seen a lot of inspiring stories lately on OB about the ways people can help others in need. It would be really cool for readers and authors to collectively share in these efforts here on OB in some way. I think Ula had started something like this already and maybe this is where you are headed, but to have some kind of effort(s) each [month/season/quarter?] where authors can choose to donate any/all portion of proceeds to the OB featured cause. For example, during a particular month OB might target a simple but tangible effort, like mosquito nets or medicine for a village, where authors interested/able to participate can designate proceeds. This would allow readers and authors to make a direct impact collectively and something that would be easy to spread interest through all of our different circles. You would not need to identify individual participation because all readers would be making a difference by purchasing titles and even authors that can’t/aren’t interested are helping just by being here and everyone helps by spreading the word. It might be a headache for OB to sort out how to manage it, but if you keep it simple it may be worth the effort as this could be what you become known for.

Dear Stanley,
It's a great idea. First I thought about giving each author the option to pick a charity and amount of money he/she wants to donate each time he/she adds a book to the system. But making this a collective effort seems far more interesting. It's true that it's going to be hard for us to manage this on a technical level but I will spend some time thinking how we can make it as simple as possible. It's a wonderful idea and I am more than happy to hear that it comes from one of my favorite authors :)
